Since 1745, the Rabot Estate has farmed cacao on the Caribbean paradise of Saint Lucia. From humble beginnings, our beauty range, boutique hotel and London restaurant have all been inspired by our love of the island, the people and the plants that flourish there.

The birth of Rabot 1745.
Hotel Chocolat's Angus Thirlwell invited modern apothecary and ex-Lush director Andrew Gerrie to explore the Rabot Estate and imagine what the essence of our estate would look like, bottled.
Deep within our dappled groves, Andrew experimented with the rich collection of flora on the estate to craft a range of natural and nourishing cacao-rich beauty products known today as Rabot 1745.
Resort & restaurant.
The idyllic Boucan resort on the Rabot Estate was opened, furthering efforts to rebuild the local economy and supply skilled employment opportunities on the island. We brought the taste of Rabot home to London with the launch of our acclaimed restaurant nestled in the heart of bustling Borough Market.
Rebuilding a cacao industry.
Over the next decade, Hotel Chocolat began the process of re-building the traditional cacao industry which for years had been in steep decline, as well as re-establishing the historic trade route with Britain dating back over 250 years.
The Rabot Estate rediscovered.
The story begins 15 years ago on the Rabot Estate, near the original French capital of Soufrière on the island of Saint Lucia.
Today, the 140-acre estate is a little piece of paradise. The iconic Piton Peaks stand majestically before you and it’s here that the rich and fertile volcanic soil, together with its high altitude (we’re 1000 feet above sea level) and rainforest water, create the perfect conditions for our precious cacao trees to flourish.
But it wasn’t always like this. The plantation was in a distressed state and needed a good dose of TLC; having stumbled across it, entrepreneurs Angus Thirlwell and Peter Harris were determined to bring it back to life. It was here that Hotel Chocolat was born.
